The Minnesota Professional Fire Fighters Association developed the program out of the understanding that fire injuries, accidents and even fatalities could be prevented by giving kids the knowledge that they need to know what to do in the event of a fire. The program aims to address the 3 most common problems that lead to fire injuries among children – lack of mobility, fear and and disorientation. The program works by instilling in children the confidence that through practice, knowing what to do in the event of a fire will become instinctual.

 

The KidWise Program has a website (www.kidwisesafety.org), where participants can sign up and complete interactive quizzes and activities with their parents. Teachers can monitor the results online and facilitate classroom discussions.
